You Came On Your Own.

So, what did you think of the Kaiser Chiefs when they first hit the scene? I liked their energy, disliked their arrogance and thought their music was OK. After a few months of listening to their tracks being played to death on the radio instead of a riot I predicted they’d fizzle out after their 2nd album on the basis that they would either try and re-create the rebellious energy of the 1st album, leaving them wide open to criticism that they lack imagination and depth, or they’d try something different to show they have imagination and depth and then be ridiculed for clearly having neither and I have to say, talent was also found to be off the menu when I last heard Ruby.

Now, oOn the other hand, The Editors, who were a band I first saw play at the O2 Wireless Festival in London’s Hyde Park in 2005, they just get better and better. They were the last minute replacement for some nonentity band that probably broke up that day?! Anyway, I had no idea who The Editors were, only that they were nervous and it showed but they were good, which also showed, however just as they seemed to be settling into things, their time was up. It was a pity, I wanted to hear a few more tracks there and then but I left the tent making a note of their name, I liked them. I went on to see them another 3 or 4 times, however one Astoria gig probably doesn’t count as I was so drunk I barely remember walking in, never mind walking out! But as I said, every performance sees them out do the previous performance.

I still enjoy listening to The Back Room and was nervously awaiting the 2nd album, you know how it is when you really like a band, you want the next album to be just as good as the last. Well, I don’t know about you but I always have that little nagging worry that it will be another Kaiser Chiefs, a crock of shit.

In case you don’t know, their 2nd album, An End Has A Start, is out (on torrents it is!) and is it coincidence that track 2 has already etched itself in my head as the track that will make high rotation on most radio stations? If I say it’s quality and you disagree, forgive me now when I say you have no idea what you’re talking about.
Keep listening until you hear it properly =)

Here are the lyrics to An End Has A Start. Go out and buy the album TODAY! (when it hits the stores)

I don’t think that it’s
Gonna rain again today,
There’s a devil at your side,
But an angel on the way

Someone hit the light,
Cause there’s more here to be seen,
When you caught my eye,
I saw everywhere I’d been

And what I go to…

You came on your own,
And that’s how you’ll leave,
With hope in your hands,
And air to breathe,

I won’t disappoint you,
As you fall apart,
Some things should be simple,
Even an end has a start,

Someone hit the light,
Cause there’s more here to be seen,
When you caught my eye,
I saw everywhere I’d been

And what I go to…

You came on your own,
And that’s how you’ll leave,
With hope in your hands,
And air to breathe,
You’ll lose everything,
But in the end,
Still my broken limbs,
Will find time to mend

More and more people I
Know are getting ill
(Put something good on the,
Ashes now be still)

You came on your own,
That’s how you’ll leave,
With hope in your hands,
And air to breathe,
You’ll lose everything,
But in the end,
Still my broken limbs,
Will find time to mend

You came on your own,
That’s how you’ll leave, x2

You came on your own x2

Who are you?

Smokey McPot is forever asking me if I know how many people visit my site and the answer I always give is, “I don’t know…maybe 30 or 40 a week”

The fact of the matter is I never really imagine anyone other than a few people I know, who could be bothered visiting this place more than once. Well, this evening I browsed through some of the options in the control panel of my host and discovered a wealth of information exists on just how many people come here…was I surprised or what?

This is how the week (14-20 May) is shaping up so far:

And here is the month of May so far:

So…
?! Why not pop along to the forum, register and say hello :)

No Horsing Around…

well, not unless you are mental in which case you NEED to be listening to quite possibly the best band I’ve heard live in many a long time. Who do I mean? Why The Mentalists of course!! What rock have you been hiding under?? When Smokey McPot informed me of a, ‘lovely lady band’ I was sceptical, this is the man who tried to tell me that Katie Sketch from The Organ was a stunning creature who had a voice like honey… Neither my eyes nor my ears were ready for her particular brand of ‘loveliness’ but I was persuaded to pop along last Wednesday to a swanky basement club (swanky = £3.50 for an OJ) to experience for myself just what the Mentalists were all about and was I glad I went? Well, the obvious answer is yes, otherwise I wouldn’t be suggesting to my loyal readers that they should get to itunes and invest 79p for their sublime track, “Don’t know what to do”

I should point out that all four girls are outrageously gorgeous, which can be mildly distracting as I couldn’t figure where to rest my eyes, so I stared blankly into space and finally surrendered my feet to the music. That said Kellymental just exuded ‘cool’ and marginally beat Kim E Leon to my affections (how she’ll sleep at night I’ll never know!)

Anyway, enough of me, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, well, don’t eat the Mentalists or I’ll be very upset, instead check them out by clicking below and then turning up to bust some moves with yours truly (yes, they really are good enough to make Mr Omneo dance!)
